L&S Waste Management has stepped in to support a community project aimed at creating a new outdoor space for young people at the First Cowplain Scout Group. The project, led by local contractor Hambledon Landscapes, will transform the scout hut garden into a practical outdoor learning environment where young people can take part in activities such as camping, bushcraft, outdoor cooking and growing plants. As part of the garden renovation, the project team needed help disposing of waste materials from the site, including wood and mixed waste generated during the works. Through its L&S in the Community initiative, L&S Waste Management has agreed to accept two loads of waste at its Portsmouth facility free of charge, helping the volunteers keep the project moving forward while keeping costs down. The First Cowplain Scout Group supports young people from the local area by providing opportunities to build confidence, develop practical life skills and enjoy outdoor activities in a safe and supportive environment. The new garden space will significantly enhance the facilities available to the scouts, creating a dedicated outdoor area where they can learn new skills, explore nature and enjoy hands -on experiences. Chris Dinenage, who is coordinating the project through Hambledon Landscapes, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to L&S Waste Management for supporting the project. Community initiatives like this rely on local businesses stepping forward to help, and their support means we can keep the work moving forward without adding extra costs to the scout group. The new garden will give the young people a fantastic outdoor space where they can learn practical skills, enjoy nature and take part in activities like bushcraft and outdoor cooking.”

Andrew Gristwood, Financial Director, L&S Waste Management, added:

“Community projects like this make a real difference for young people. We’re delighted to support the work being done by Hambledon Landscapes and the volunteers involved in improving the facilities at First Cowplain Scout Group.”

The project is being delivered with support from several local businesses, demonstrating the strength of community collaboration in helping local organisations thrive. Once completed, the renovated garden will provide a valuable new resource for the scout group and the young people who attend it. Through initiatives such as L&S in the Community, L&S Waste Management continues to support charities, schools and community organisations across the region by providing practical assistance and resources to help local projects succeed.
