Project: M27 Junction 10 – Christmas Infrastructure Works
Service: Volumetric Concrete Supply
Location: M27 motorway
Date: December 2025

“They provided an excellent service throughout and changed their own plans to suit a couple of changes in our programme without any issues. Matt went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed, which reflected very well on L&S.”

Site Agent, VolkerFitzpatrick

Looking ahead

With further infrastructure, drainage, and road works planned through 2026, L&S Concrete is continuing to support VolkerFitzpatrick on upcoming phases of the project, bringing the same level of planning, reliability, and hands-on support to future works.

The Challenge

The Christmas shutdown of the M27 at Junction 10 was a nationally significant infrastructure project, involving complex road closures, diversions, and a tightly controlled programme over the festive period. For the works to progress as planned, VolkerFitzpatrick required a guaranteed, uninterrupted supply of concrete, delivered at unsociable hours across multiple days including Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with minimal margin for delay.

With road closures and diversions in place, logistics planning was critical. Any disruption to supply risked knock-on delays to the wider programme and increased costs.

The L&S Solution

L&S Concrete worked closely with the VolkerFitzpatrick site team to develop a proactive logistics strategy that removed risk from the concrete supply.

Key elements included:

  • Pre-loading five volumetric concrete trucks before the Christmas closure, with the Portsmouth depot also on standby with a team for support if needed.

  • Positioning trucks on site at Junction 10 on 23 December, ahead of road closures.

  • Ensuring continuous availability of concrete despite restricted access and diversions.

  • Pouring concrete across Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and 27 December, including into the night of the 28th.

  • Deploying additional driver support from the Portsmouth depot to load extra material when on-site issues extended the programme.

  • Rapid demobilisation once works were completed, with trucks returned to depot on 29 December.

This approach ensured VolkerFitzpatrick had the flexibility and reassurance needed to manage programme changes without compromising progress.

The Result

Despite the challenges of a major motorway closure over the Christmas period, the works were completed successfully, with concrete supplied exactly when needed.

The proactive planning, flexibility of the L&S team, and commitment of its drivers played a key role in keeping the project moving during a highly constrained window.
