L&S Waste Management has become the only waste management company in Hampshire, and one of only five in the UK, to achieve the Silver Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Accreditation for multiple operating sites.
FORS is a voluntary scheme designed to raise the level of quality within fleet operations and to encourage companies to achieve the highest industry standards.
Following an investment in the region of £250,000 and several months of hard work, intensive training and upgrades to its fleet, the firm has attained the much-coveted Silver Multi Level Operating Centre Accreditation (MOCA) for its fleet of 62 Heavy Goods Vehicles operating across its three sites in Portsmouth, Fareham and Southampton.
Having previously held the FORS Bronze accreditation, the new improved level will have several benefits to the business, as L&S Waste Management Managing Director, Mick Balch explains: “Achieving FORS Silver accreditation is a huge coop for us and will drive more efficiencies across our fleet, while improving service levels for our customers.
“FORS ensures that our drivers set an example in terms of safety, reducing the risk to our team, other road users and the general public.
“The business-critical training that drives FORS accreditation also shows existing and future employees that we are happy to invest in their safety and development. This is one of the reasons why we attract and retain the best drivers on Hampshire’s roads.”
“FORS Silver accreditation represents a lot of hard work from the whole team. In recent months every one of our drivers has undertaken extensive training to ensure that they are performing at optimum levels of safety and efficiency."
“We have also invested significantly in our fleet to ensure that we not only meet the highest safety standards but also minimise our environmental impact through greener, cleaner Euro 6 engines."
“A by-product of this is that we are now able to demonstrate increased fuel economy and improved daily operations through better driving and more efficient vehicles. We hope to also reduce downtime by reducing repair and maintenance issues through improved safety and expertly trained drivers.”
L&S Waste Management now operates one of the largest, newest and environmentally efficient fleets on the south coast supporting its full range of services, including waste removal, skip hire, aggregates, muck away, aggregates, ready mixed concrete, concrete pumping and a road sweeper service.
