Recognising outstanding community contributions across the South

Fareham based L&S Waste Management has today launched their ‘L&S Local Heroes’ campaign, which aims to celebrate the outstanding contributions that unsung heroes make in our local community.

L&S is calling on people to nominate individuals, young and old, residing in the PO or SO postcode areas that are worthy of recognition. So whether you or someone you know is a local carer, have kept the nation fed, have worked tirelessly in the local hospital or supported the local community in some other way, L&S wants to hear from you.

L&S Waste Management managing director, Mick Balch, explains the reasoning behind the campaign: “In 2019 we set up our L&S in the Community project as a result of the number of requests for support we get from the local community. As a result we have donated over £25,000 to local causes and events, which we are extremely pleased and proud to be able to support.

“Unfortunately, we are not able to help everyone, but listening to so many stories where local people rally together to help those in need, really got us thinking about how amazing some people are and how selfless and generous they can be with their time and energy.

“Our L&S Local Heroes campaign will celebrate the amazing contributions that so many people make every day in our community. We feel it’s important to recognise these contributions after what has been a challenging period for everyone. This is our way of saying thank you for all they have done.”

The campaign is being championed by Hampshire’s very own local hero, Brian Wood MC. Brian is a former Colour Sergeant of the Hampshire based Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in combat following his tour of Iraq.

Brian’s story is a remarkable one; the subject of the recent, hugely successful Danny Boy BBC dramatization. Today Brian is a best-selling author, public speaker, events organiser and entrepreneur. Brian recently completed his Ultimate Sacrifice Challenge, raising over £170,000 for charity while running 25 marathons in 25 consecutive days!

Brian said: “Heroes are everywhere in our society. They teach our children, they keep us safe, they help and support others, they do the little things that make the community in which we live a better place. I’m proud to be part of the L&S Local Heroes campaign that aims to give something back to those who go the extra mile and provides those people with the recognition they so rightly deserve.”

As well as shining a spotlight on the local heroes in various ways, including a comprehensive social media campaign, Brian, along with a panel of judges from L&S will select one ultimate winner, who will receive an all expenses paid pamper weekend for two worth over £1,500!

You can nominate your local heroes and find out more about the campaign via the website www.lswaste.co.uk/localheroes.
