Great to see L&S Waste Management featured in the Daily Echo this week!
L&S Waste Management is proud to announce that John Galton, Site Supervisor at the company’s busy Railhead operation in Southampton, has successfully completed the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Management and Leadership.
The qualification, which is widely recognised across industry, equips learners with essential management skills including team leadership, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making. John’s achievement underlines both his personal dedication to professional development and L&S Waste Management’s ongoing commitment to investing in its people.
John, who has been with L&S Waste for six years completed the year-long course at PETA Training in Portsmouth, balancing his studies alongside his day-to-day responsibilities at one of the company’s key operational sites. The qualification strengthens his ability to manage daily operations at the Railhead site and will enable him to further support his team, maintain the highest levels of safety and efficiency, and continue delivering the excellent service L&S’ customers rely on.
Commenting on his achievement, John said: “Completing the CMI Level 3 has given me a new set of skills and confidence in my role. It’s helped me think more strategically and has improved the way I manage and support the team. I’m grateful to L&S for the opportunity and encouragement.”
L&S Waste Management Operations Director, Steve Harman, added: “We’re delighted to celebrate John’s success. The Railhead site is one of our key operations, and John’s leadership is crucial to its smooth running. This qualification is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the value we place on developing our people to be the best they can be.”
John’s success is part of a wider commitment by L&S to invest in its people. The business allocates approximately £50,000 annually to staff training and development, ensuring employees have opportunities to gain new skills and qualifications.
Currently, one other employee, Mat Barnes is about to complete his Level 4 WAMITAB qualification, further strengthening the company’s operational expertise. In addition, L&S has supported three apprenticeships in the last two years, one in Mechanical Engineering and two in Management and Leadership, and is actively seeking candidates for new apprenticeship opportunities.
This commitment to training ensures L&S Waste Management continues to deliver the high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service for which it is known across Hampshire and the South Coast.
