L&S Waste Management has stepped in to assist with the refurbishment of the Phoenix Theatre & Arts Centre in Bordon.
As part of its Community Funding Scheme, L&S has provided waste removal services free of charge so that the Phoenix Centre can complete the refurbishment and renovation of its former carriage store into a new workshop space to support its charitable work.
Converted from a former Edwardian school, The Phoenix is a thriving theatre and arts centre servicing the Whitehill and Bordon area in Hampshire. Its intimate theatre space plays host to over 50 shows a year including comedy, drama, music and dance. As well as offering a wide variety of entertainment, the Phoenix acts as a community arts agency, placing writers, artists, musicians, dancers and drama facilitators in a wide variety of community arts projects with schools, colleges and community groups.
The Centre works with groups of all ages, needs and abilities including those with physical and learning disabilities. It also runs after school clubs and holiday activities for children and young people.
Director of the Phoenix Theatre & Arts Centre, Rob Allerston, said: “The Phoenix is the creative centre of this vibrant community and the refurbishment work is vital to ensure that we can continue to offer quality entertainment and education to local people. As a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation we are undertaking this project on a very tight budget and are heavily reliant on the support of local volunteers, apprentices and companies like L&S Waste to get the job done."
L&S Waste Management, Managing Director, Mick Balch, said: “This is exactly the type of scheme that we set the set up our community fund to support. A great local charity, which benefits a widespread community of people. We wish the Phoenix all the best with the rest of the refurbishment and good luck for the future."
